Hey there beauties!

Who’s your favorite cat character? Jiji? Hello Kitty? Luna? I know, there are so many adorable kitties, it’s hard to pick just one!

While many people know about the shiba inu, cats are also a big part of Japanese culture.

Ever heard of the lucky cat? You often see them in Asian restaurants by the cash register waving away to catch that good fortune and money. The Gotokuji Temple, in the Setagaya ward of Tokyo is believed to be the origin of the maneki neko (beckoning cat). There are TONS of them all over the shrine.

History aside, there are of course more modern Japanese cat icons, the most famous being Hello Kitty! She appears on everything from clothing, to accessories, to planes (Yes!).
